Kahoot for Introducing the New or Reviewing the Old

Through its intuitive, game-like interface, Kahoot manages to provide students and teachers alike with numerous possibilities of turning teaching and learning materials into competitive games. Whether introducing a new topic or revising already acquired knowledge, Kahoot can be a great solution to catching your students' attention and invigorating their interest in learning.

More often than not, culture and civilization topics are not entirely new to students. Thus, a quick Kahoot game at the start of a new lesson may be just the right tool to measure your students' knowledge on the topic, while providing them with the opportunity to engage with their peers. This way, new concepts may seem less threatening, while old knowledge gets reactivated through a fun challenge. English teacher Madalina-Larisa Kimak proposes a quick quiz to introduce the Victorian Era to 11th Grade students in a literature lesson about Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre.

Revising for an upcoming test may not always seem like the most fun learning activity, at least not when students are faced with the well-known drills and grammar practice. But preparing for a test can be done differently than just through dull repetitions of the same exercises and materials.

English teacher Adina-Ilioara Chereches admits that right from the first usage, Kahoot has become a frequent activity during her English classes, being used as often as twice a week. For the following lesson revising Question Tags, her 6th graders were the first to request Kahoot as the main learning tool.
